The Flower and Art Show - Call for Entries

Your invitation to participate:

The Wakefield Foundation, Inc., Center for the Arts, is pleased to announce its 33nd annual invitational art and flower show, "The Flower and Art Show", to be held May 2-15, 2020. The Board of Trustees of the Foundation is pleased to issue you a personal invitation to exhibit one piece of your artwork in this year's show. An entry fee of $20 ($5 students, under 18, adult students $20) is required to participate and must accompany the artist entry/information sheet (make checks payable to The Wakefield Foundation, Inc.)

The exhibit is open to professionals, amateurs and students and will be judged, by a qualified judge, according to those divisions with awards for First, Second, and Third Place in each of the divisions. Honorable Mentions may also be awarded at the judges descretion. Also, an overall recognition, with a monetary prize, will be awarded for 'Best-In-Show'. If a division has an insufficient number of entries or the judges deem a division not worthy of any or all awards, the Foundation reserves the right not to have the division judged.

Any subject matter and all media are acceptable for the exhibit but the artwork must be original and cannot have been previously exhibited in the Flower and Art Show. The Foundation reserves the right to refuse entry to works with unusual installation requirements or works otherwise deemed unsuitable. If special display cases or devices are needed, they must be supplied by the artist. Graphic works and paintings of all types must be properly framed and suitable for hanging (hanging wire securely attached to the frame in a position as to not expose the wall hanger). A 20% commission will be required from any sale which occurs during or because of the exhibit. Payment will be made to the Foundation which will be responsible for making payment to the artist and arranging for the delivery of the artwork to the purchaser.

The accompanying artist entry form must be filled out completely and returned with the entry fee as soon as possible but not later than March 27, 2020. Any entry form received after March 27, 2020 will be returned. If you know of others who might be interested in exhibiting in the show, you may duplicate the entry form or the information on the form may be copied by hand on a sheet of paper and mailed to the Foundation. Or you can download and print a text copy of the form available here or as an Acrobat PDF file available here. (Note: The PDF must be printed on legal size paper)

Artwork must be delivered by the artist or their designee to the Foundation office at 100 Wilson Avenue, Wakefield, Virginia (off Route 460 behind the Virginia Diner and the U. S. Post Office) on Saturday, April 4, 2020, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Special arrangements for delivery of artwork may be made by calling Joan Drewry at 757-899-2365 or George Williams at 757-899-2604. Artwork may be shipped by UPS or USPS only, prepaid in reinforced, reusable cartons with return shipping fee in the form of a check made out to The Wakefield Foundation, Inc., included. The Wakefield Foundation, Inc. will handle all artwork with the utmost care; however, it does not assume responsibility for loss or damage, including breakage.

An opening reception for the artists and the public will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2020 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Foundation. Artists appearing in the exhibit will be provided with one free ticket which will be issued when the artwork is delivered to the Foundation; additional tickets may be purchased at that time or at the door. If you have questions, please call Joan Drewry at 757-899-2365 or George Williams at 757-899-2604 or contact him by email at

At the end of the exhibit, artwork must be picked up on Saturday, May 16, 2020 between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. at the Foundation. No artwork may be removed prior to the end of the show. Neither the Foundation nor its Board of Trustees will be responsible for work left after the pick-up dates. Works not picked up within thirty days (June 17, 2020) become the property of the Wakefield Foundation, Inc.
